Blogger Beta Bushwhacked Me

Well, the day has finally come. I lost the ability to post comments and was forced to throw myself prostrate (prostate is more like it) at the feet of Blogger Beta. Consequently, many of the comments from my fellow bloggers have been arbitrarily re-labeled as “anonymous.” I’m chewing a hole in my keyboard trying to figure that one out. That dirty, rotten, no-good, son-of-a-weasel Beta bastard has bushwhacked me!

I have to make the switch too. I'm having a hard time leaving comments. I am afraid. What if my blog disappears? It's all I've got.

It is troubling the amount of crap I've endured since foolishly moving to the Beta. You are apparently able to leave comments anonymously at least- many times I can't comment or post at all. Irrelephant says it's all my fault, and he's a clever fellow, so- I'm sorry.

Mist1, be afraid. I’ve read through a few threads in tech support and it’s not pretty. Unfortunately, it has come to the point where old blogger is being allowed to rot. You may as well close your eyes and pull the switch.

s@bd, hair falling out in patches, eyeballs leaking sadwater, I could be overreacting.

wings and things, I guess they could have mentioned that. Maybe I’m being unreasonable, nope, I’m not.

Stucco, my switch was involuntary. It was switch or shut the whole thing down.

Kara, I was ready to flush the Kool-Aid down the turlit last night.

Hey doc, it got me coming and going. I lost the ability to comment days ago in old blogger so I switched to beta last night, then I couldn’t post in beta and many of the comments to my previous posts were converted to anonymous, the names of the commenters lost forever. Bushwacked!

I was also tricked by that same weasel Beta(loved the choice of words) and share the same frustration. Now people are unable to leave comments on my blog without appearing as anonymous!wth?
Hope they fix this problem soon.

Hi Fuzzy, that problem seems to have worked itself out with my beta. I don’t know, I probably jinxed it now.

Yeah, the same thing happened to me and I'm having a hard time being able to post comments on other people's blogs. Uff!

I'm right with ya'!

Cheesy, that is why I waited till that last second before switching. From what I can tell, some people get hosed and others come away from the switch with nothing bad to say about it. The general consensus is that the old blogger is going nowhere but down, and I’m not talking about the good kind of going down either. When I hit the switch, I said goodbye to all of my posts beforehand, gritted my teeth and hit the gas pedal. So far, the little glitches appear to have healed themselves without me doing much about it. I say wait until you can’t stand it anymore and just do it.

Goncalo, it’s amazing how pissed off I get at the thought of vaporizing all of my previous posts and comments. I think I’m safe now but I put up with a lot of crap before finally doing the dirty deed and switching.

Misanthropster, I guess it’s not so bad. Beta definitely loads the dashboard quicker.

I switched without any problems at all. Perhaps I'm one of the chosen few.

Or I'm too much of an idiot to realize I'm having problems.

Hey buddy, I'm testing before I switch. Hope this goes through. I could not leave a message at all, not even as Anonymous, on your blog yesterday. >:(

Ahhhh...Anne is ever so wise. I have not made the switch but have been finding myself locked out of leaving comments on a number of sites (all beta)
Slag~Did you lose all your old archived posts?
btw, what is a google account? i thought google was a search engine.

I had a few problems commenting at first, but once I learned to write a comment, copy it (just in case) and then sign in with my Google account (and paste comment again if necessary), it seemed to clear up.

One particular blogger's name showed in my comments until I switched, then it flipped to Anonymous, but no problems since.

If you find yourself locked out of leaving comments, you can click Other, then type your name and Blogspot URL and you're golden.

I think.

I switched to the google beta thing long ago. 'Course, every time I want to leave a comment, I have to be signed into the beta. So... I don't understand why, if I was always logged into beta when leaving comments, that it turned my comments, here, into 'anonymous'. Go figure.

Jazz, for all I know, you could be in the majority. Maybe the hell raised by the disenchanted few is creating an overblown sense of structural failure in the system. Maybe so, but I for one am sure that we are all doomed.

Anne, it’s time to pull the switch. I think there might be more of a risk with keeping old blogger than changing to beta. Old blogger is slowly being starved to death.

Skinny, I thought at first that I had lost my archives. It was a bumpy start and many of the comments were automatically switched to anonymous, but it now seems that everything is working ok. My dashboard loads a lot faster and access to my settings is easier. I don’t want to jinx it, but it looks like everything is going to be alright.

Melissa, I’ve always edited my comments in Word before posting due to issues with blogger. I haven’t had any more comments switch to anonymous since the initial beta switch.

Shimmerrings, I have given up trying to figure it out, just a buggy switchover on my part.

Seems us archaic blogger classic folk have to log in at the main page before commenting on any beta blogs under our own username, but in my experience that only works about half the time.

I'm going to hold out as long as possible.

funny...the last blog I just visited was about switching to beta. I started out beta (yes I'm a n00b) so I guess I don't know the difference.

Blogger slaghammer said...

Orhan, yep, there’s apparently plenty of misery to go around with old blogger.

Woozie, close your eyes and pull the switch before your blog falls into the bottomless pit. At this point, I think the danger is greater with old blogger than with beta.

Pinkangel, better a n00b than a whippersnapper. I’ve always hated that word, whippersnapper that is. Regarding beta, don’t get too comfortable, you will be caught up in the next blogger upgrade in the next year or so. Blogger Huevos Maximos can’t be too far away.

Cheesy, I do believe you are correct. I give credit to the mighty Zeus.

Goncalo, that’s pretty funny. Sort of the same thing happened to me last week. I drove my wife’s car to the store and freaked out when I returned to the parking lot, looking for my car! I thought somebody jacked my ride.

Judith, shake your fist at will but please, no tittering. I have a no tittering policy here. This is a family blog after all.
Btw, I’ve only just made it back after a forced holiday from my blogging duties. Huge apologies for not responding to your tag, I’ll get on it right away after flushing the last of my non-blog obligations down the turlit.

Irene, historically, prostates have been viewed as harbingers of unhappy circumstances and on occasion, even doom. They are a much-maligned organ. I have some good to say about them, but not at the possible expense of my good name here in the blogosphere.

You should've done it in August when I did it. I started in August my blog, and after two weeks they launched the beta blogger, I switch to it in that moment. I had some inconviniences while it was beta ... but now is working perfectly ;)

Alegria, beta is growing on me now, but I always hold out when software or hardware upgrades come around to avoid the bugs that always show up. You are right though, I should have pulled the switch earlier.
